Okay, so you’ve started your first year of university (or) college. It’s almost mid September, the scary bits have passed and you’re all settled in. Things are different than they were just a few months ago. The once summer sunlight feels pale. Mornings are filled with crisp air and warm drinks. You might still be in your parent’s house, or your parents are a few hours away. But wherever you are, things are different now.
I don’t know anything about your upbringing. I don’t know how living at home was, or what high school was like for every one of you. I can’t even remember the person that I was in high school. It was in my first year, that I want to say I truly came out of my shell. There’s so much growth that just happens in this year to come, you won’t even be able to control it. I hate to sound generic but this is a time where although you don’t have all the answers, things will still fall into place. Just keep in mind that you don’t have to know everything.
Where your family will (hopefully) be at a standstill, friends will be in constant movement in and out of your life. People are so different, and everyones dealing with the same situation, yet some people deal with things more differently than others. Differences have the power to keep you either together or apart. Stay with the genuine ones and weed out the rest. Don’t forget your friends from high school just because you make new friends.
And dating will be a complicated map of both great adventures and assholes. And its funny because sometimes the assholes will open your eyes at past adventures and you’ll see things differently than before. Enjoy this time in your life. Don’t expect to meet your soulmate or anything; just go where life takes you.
What about those cute as hell couples from high school you say? [SPOILER ALERT] For the most part they’ll sort of start strong and break up. BUT then there will sometimes be the couples that make it. And everyone and their mothers root for them throughout the years to come.
First year is literally a time of change. Its a time where you might gain a couple pounds, have adventurous nights that turn to mornings, and fall in and out of love. Whatever this year brings you, good luck! It’s honestly going to go by pretty fast, but enjoy it while it lasts. Drink responsibly, make good choices, and have all the fun in the world; you’re only young once.
