MAC Oval 6 Review

Hey Guys! I hope you enjoyed my best friend Caitlin’s take on blogging with her post that she published last time on my blog! I definitely think she has enough advice to create her own- check it out if you haven’t yet.

In the meantime I am back with another makeup review, this is seriously the summer of makeup over here. I recently (finally) got the MAC Oval 6 brush and man oh man have I been excited to review this product. The MAC near me had been sold out for a long time so I had to wait not-so-patiently for them to order more.

This product sells for $51 CA. I was very impressed by the way it was packaged, it looks so chic and luxurious- very impressed by that.

I have never used an oval brush before, I’ve used stippling brushes, foundation brushes, sponges, but not something like this. I started off with a fresh face and a little bit of my moisturizer (I use Olay Active Hydrating Beauty Fluid Lotion because my mom always used that and it just kind of stuck I guess). Obviously I don’t really want to post a no makeup selfie but I guess today’s the day for that. To start put a little dollop of foundation (Smashbox Studio Skin) on the back of my hand and proceeded to distribute the product on my face with my fingers to create little spots everywhere. AND THEN I took the MAC Oval 6 brush in all its glory and proceeded to sort of massage the product onto my face. I found it different from a regular brush or sponge because instead of a dabbing motion you actually have to use it in a paint brush-massage type of way.

The initial application of makeup felt so luxurious and different, so that was definitely a positive. And the makeup seems to sit nicely on my face without looking streaky or caked on. I also used only one pump of foundation versus the two that I’d use for the sponge or regular brush. I have heard that you need to clean this brush frequently once every two weeks to keep the brush from clumping and I’ve also heard that it gets dirty very easily- I guess I’ll keep you posted!

I hope this review has helped at least one person who’s been thinking about purchasing this makeup brush. At the end of that day, my foundation still looked amazing. Though I’ve only used this once I have high hopes that this will be a regular brush for me and my makeup routine!
